Recently, I began to knit. One of my generous students, Jean, sat with me for a few hours after class and patiently guided me in this new adventure. At first it was terribly awkward. The yarn and needles both new to the touch. Each stitch seemed to take forever and yet the time passed so quickly. Within the first half hour I was hooked. I loved how the pattern began to emerge out of nothing and how the rows lined up with the promise of something more unfolding bit by bit.
My yoga practice has felt like this many times as I begin to see how every practice adds to the whole of my well being. Each time my hands and feet are placed in a certain way on the mat; I align with the highest within myself. There is time enough to pause and pay attention, to notice the pattern of each breath as it forms. My thoughts slow. The movements are familiar yet once again I am in beginners mind. In these first few moments of practice I am able to soften, to receive and feel the quality of wonder wash over me ~
